The only thing spare I've got in my Blazer is Fix a Flat, and a spare wheel. I think I've got to do better than that. Mercifully, I've got AAA and a charge card and a cell phone. None of these work if the society collapes, but that is unlikely until next week. Christopher A. Young P.O. You are correct in saying that there is no way to carry a spare for every potential broken part. The best way to approach this is to know your vehicle and which parts are most likely to go. For example, I consider u-joints to be fuses in the drive line so I carry several of them at all times. I carry allot of other things that most people don't but I won't list that here. Anyway, underhood welders are outstanding tools to have when you are out in the stix but there are some things that just can't be welded, such as axle shafts. Others can be welded but the heat ruins the stability of the metal, such as leaf springs or any other kind of hardened or spung metal. I tend to carry items that can't be welded. As long as you have it you won't need it. Last time I broke something on my jeep in the middle of the dessert it just so happened to be the one thing that I didn't have and of course it required a special tool that was laying in the garage. I don't think that I have ever busted a u-joint though...probably because I carry about ten of the damn things.
