Pectus excavatum occurs when the cartilage connecting the ribs to the sternum develops abnormally. Children with pectus excavatum have a depression deformity in the chest wall, where the ribs meet the sternum. This can sometimes result in problematic breathing. Pectus excavatum repair is recommended for:- improved appearance (cosmetic repair)
- improved breathing (respiratory function)
