There are two main surgical methods used for removing the prostate gland. The first one, called the "perineal" method, is used primarily when the prostate cancer is limited to the prostrate gland, and has not spread to the lymph nodes. An incision is made in the perineum, which is the area between the base of the scrotum and the anus.
