The second surgical method of prostatectomy is called the "suprapubic" approach. An incision is made in the abdomen, just below the umbilicus, which extends downward to the pubic bone. This method allows for the removal of more tissue, including lymph nodes and the tissue surrounding the prostate. It is generally used for a more advanced cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes of the pelvis.
