While you are deep asleep and pain-free (using general or spinal anesthesia), a special kind of cystoscope (resectoscope) is inserted to remove the prostate gland. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the most common type of surgical procedure for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
