Spinal fusion is performed for: - abnormal curvature of the spine (scoliosis or kyphosis)
- injury to the spinal vertebrae
- protrusion of the cushioning disc between the vertebrae (slipped disc or herniated nucleus pulposus)
- infections or tumors that weaken the spine
