Treatment:
The objective of treatment is to control the infection. The response to treatment may be slow and must be continued for at least 6 months. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is used to treat the infection. Surgical drainage and resection may be needed in some cases.
Expectations (prognosis):
The probable outcome is poor when the infection is widespread and the treatment is delayed.
