Pancreatic abscess
Definition:
A cavity of pus within the pancreas.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Pancreatic abscess occurs in 5 to 10% of people with acute pancreatitis. An abscess may be caused by inadequate drainage of a pancreatic pseudocyst, which is a complication associated with pancreatitis. The incidence is 4 out of 100,000 people.
