Metabolic acidosis

Definition:

A disturbance of the body acid-base balance in which there is excessive acidity of body fluids or loss of alkali (base). This can be the result of diabetes mellitus, starvation, severe dehydration, excessive ingestion of aspirin, kidney failure, and metabolic diseases.
