Pseudotumor cerebri

Alternative names:

benign intracranial hypertension; hypertensive meningeal hydrops

Treatment:

Treatment must be directed at the condition causing the pseudotumor. An initial lumbar puncture is both diagnostic and therapeutic.

Expectations (prognosis):

The prognosis is excellent, with a recurrence rate of less than 10%.

Complications:

Usually there are no complications.

Call your health care provider if you notice signs of increased pressure within the skull (increased intracranial pressure).
