Pituitary insufficiency
Definition:
The pituitary gland is the small gland joined to the hypothalamus (a gland near the base of the brain). It produces many of the hormones that control essential body processes. "Insufficiency" is a term used to describe the inability of an organ to perform essential functions in an adequate manner. Pituitary insufficiency describes the condition in which the pituitary gland fails to produce sufficient quantities of one or more hormones.
