Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
Alternative names:
CLL
Treatment:
Early disease requires no specific therapy. Chemotherapy or radiation may be indicated for fatigue, anemia, thrombocytopenia, or enlarged lymph nodes that are troublesome. Blood transfusions or platelet transfusions may be required.
The stress of illness can often be helped by joining a support group where members share common experiences and problems. See cancer - support group and leukemia - support group.
Expectations (prognosis):
Progression of the disease is slow. About one-half of people with this disorder live for 6 years, and 25% live more than 10 years.
Complications:
Calling your health care provider:
Call for an appointment with your health care provider if symptoms occur that are suggestive of CLL.
