			Methemoglobin is an abnormal form of hemoglobin which is unable to transport oxygen. Methemoglobinemia can be the result of an inherited disorder or can be acquired through exposure to chemicals such as nitrates (nitrate contaminated water), aniline dyes and potassium chlorate.
