Estimates suggest that 1 out of 5 dogs in the U. S. carry Toxocara. Worming of puppies and adult dogs at periods prescribed by veterinarians reduces the risk that you pet may carry Toxocara. Removing dog and cat feces and proper disposal can reduce the risk of exposure to children playing in the area. Routine handwashing after yard cleanup (removing dog and cat droppings) and after handling pets will further decrease the risk.
