Definition:
A rare disease usually contracted by inhalation or ingestion of fungus by susceptible people. The fungus is usually Rhizopus, Mucor, or Absidia.
Most people have a natural resistance to fungus. The specific disease that affects the head and face usually causes sinus infections, especially in people with diabetes mellitus. Without aggressive treatment, the outcome is usually fatal.
