Cranial mononeuropathy III; Compression type
Treatment:
Some cases may resolve without treatment.
Treatment of the cause (if it can be identified) may relieve the symptoms in many cases. In some cases, corticosteroids may reduce swelling and relieve pressure on the nerve. Surgery may be appropriate to treat eye lid drooping or dysconjugate gaze.
Expectations (prognosis):
The outcome varies. Most cranial nerve dysfunctions will respond to treatment, and a few cases result in some type of permanent loss.
Complications:
Calling your health care provider:
Call your health care provider if double vision is present and not relieved in a few minutes, especially if eye lid drooping is also present.
