Hypertensive retinopathy

Treatment:

Control of high blood pressure (hypertension) is the only treatment. High blood pressure treatment is discussed separately in its own section.

Expectations (prognosis):

Grade IV hypertensive retinopathy is associated with a poor prognosis (probable outcome) because of associated cardiac and renal complications of high blood pressure.

Complications:

Calling your health care provider:

Call for an appointment with your health care provider if you have high blood pressure and vision changes or headaches occur; or if you have not had your eyes examined recently.
