Traumatic nasogastric or endotracheal intubation
Definition:
The insertion of a tube through the nose into the trachea (for the purpose of maintaining an airway or preventing aspiration of food into the airway) or into the stomach (to relieve excess air from the stomach or to instill nutrients or medications). In either case, traumatic intubation infers that local tissue irritation or damage occurs because of the procedure.
