Treatment:
A heart transplant cures the condition, but drugs must be taken lifelong to suppress the immune system, in order to prevent rejection of the new organ.
Expectations (prognosis):
Barring transplantation, hypoplastic left heart syndrome is generally fatal.
Complications:
If untreated, the heart failure continues to worsen and eventually, complete heart failure will develop.
