Pituitary infarction
Definition:
The pituitary gland is the small gland joined to the hypothalamus (a gland near the base of the brain). It produces many of the hormones that control essential body processes. An infarction (infarct) is a localized area of tissue damage or destruction that results from insufficient blood supply to the area (or rarely, inadequate blood drainage from the area). Pituitary infarction results in inadequate amounts of any or all of the hormones normally produced by the pituitary gland.
