Hartnup disorder
Definition:
An inherited metabolic disorder of the amino acid tryptophan.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Hartnup disorder is possibly the most common metabolic condition involving amino acids. Although most people show no symptoms, photosensitivity is the major symptom, and ataxia and mood changes often appear together. The incidence is 3 out of 100,000 people.
