Niemann-Pick
Prevention:
Genetic counseling is recommended for prospective parents with a family history of Niemann-Pick disease. Carrier status (people who carry the disease trait and are capable of passing it on) can be determined by measuring sphingomyelinase activity. Prenatal diagnosis can also be made by measuring enzyme activity.
