Ewing's sarcoma

Treatment:

Treatment is under the direction of a cancer specialist (oncologist).

Treatment often includes a combination of

• chemotherapy
  • cyclophosphamide
  • vincristine
  • dactinomycin
  • doxorubicin

• radiation therapy to the tumor site
• surgical excision (removal) of the primary tumor
• amputation of the involved extremity (not routinely recommended)

Expectations (prognosis):

Ewing sarcoma generally has a poor prognosis. Spread of the cancer (metastasis), fever, and having the primary tumor located in the pelvis or ribs are unfavorable signs.

Complications:

This tumor is frequently fata.

Call your health care provider if your child has symptoms suggestive of Ewing sarcoma. Early diagnosis can increase the possibility of a favorable outcome.
