Brachial palsy in the neonate

Treatment:


Full recovery is expected unless the nerve has actually been torn Gentle massage of the arm and range of motion exercise are recommended for mild cases, but, in more severe cases, a pediatric neurologist may need to be consulted.

Expectations (prognosis):


Full recovery is expected by the time the child is 6 months old.

Complications:


Tearing of the nerve may lead to permanent partial loss of function.

Call your health care provider if your newborn shows a lack of movement of either arm.
