Vulvitis
Definition:
Inflammation of the vulva (external female genitalia).
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Possible causes include chronic dermatitis, seborrhea or eczema, allergies (particularly to soaps, bubble bath, materials, fragrances), or infections (such as fungal infections, pediculosis, diphtheria or scabies). Vulvitis can occur in women of all ages. In prepubescent and postmenopausal women, the condition may be caused by low estrogen levels.
