Bathing trunk nevus

Alternative names:

congenital giant pigmented nevus; giant hairy nevus

Symptoms:

  • a darkly pigmented lesion covering an extensive area of the trunk and/or extremities
  • the nevus may contain hair
  • smaller lesions may exist near the margins of the primary lesion
  • surface texture may vary from smooth to warty and the color from brownish to bluish black.

Signs and tests:

All birthmarks should be evaluated by your health care provider. A biopsy of suspicious areas may be obtained for cytological evaluation (testing to determine if the cells have become cancerous).
