Mathematics disorder
Definition:
A disability resulting from an inability to compute basic mathematical concepts.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Six percent of elementary age children have some degree of mathematical disability. Children who have mathematics disorder may have trouble performing simple mathematical equations, such as counting and adding. These abilities are critical in determining the success of the child when he/she later attends school.
Mathematical disorder may appear in combination with reading disorder, developmental coordination disorder and mixed receptive/expressive language disorder.
