Mixed receptive -expressive language disorder

Treatment:

Speech and language therapy have remained the best approach to this type of language disorder. Psychotherapy is also recommended for children because of the possibility of an emotional or behavioral problem associated with mixed receptive-expressive language disorder.

Expectations (prognosis):

The outcome varies.

Complications:

Difficulty understanding and using language can cause problems with social interaction and ability to function independently as an adult.

Calling your health care provider:

Parents who are concerned about their child's acquisition of language should have the child tested. Early intervention will provide the best possible outcome.
