Height and weight chart
Alternative names:
growth chart
Information:
Definition: A chart used to measure and compare a child's growth.
Measurements used to document the child's height or length (in inches and centimeters), weight (in ounces and pounds, or grams and kilograms), and head circumference (in centimeters) based on his age in weeks, months, and years and compared to the measurements considered normal for children of the same age.
Head circumference is a measurement of the size of the head taken by wrapping a tape measure above the eyebrows and ears and around to the back of head.
Measurements are compared to average or normal measurements for children of the same gender and age. Results are read as percentiles of average. For example, height above the 50th percentile means that less than 50% of children of this age and gender are taller than this child and more than 50% of children are shorter than this child.
