The Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that on a yearly basis 6 million Americans get ill from salmonella and campylobacter poisoning, and at least 1,500 to 2,000 Americans die from this type of poisoning.

Pork, beef, chicken, other meats, and eggs are sources of salmonella. Raw milk and chicken can be sources of campylobacter.
