Definition:
Poisoning from decongestants.
Poisonous ingredient may include any of the following: - pseudoephedrine
- phenylpropanolamine
- ephedrine
- epinephrine
- naphazoline
- oxymetazoline
- tetrahydrozoline
- xylometazoline
- phenylephrine
Note: This list may not be all inclusive.
Where found:
- nasal decongestant sprays and solutions (such as Afrin, Neo-Synephrine, Vicks Vatronol, Vicks Sinex)
- oral (taken by mouth) decongestants (such as Sudafed, Novafed)
- any allergy preparations (Dimetapp, Actifed, Sudafed)
- some weight loss medications (Dexatrim, control, Acutrim)
- diet aids (Dexatrim)
