  • chest pain
  • fever

• respiratory
  • shortness of breath
  • cough

• eyes, ears, nose, and throat
  • runny nose

• skin
  • lips and fingernails blue
  • itchy rash (itching)

• gastrointestinal
  • weight loss

for mercury

• body as a whole
  • thirst
  • metallic taste
  • decreased urine output
  • no urine output
  • excessive salivation
  • red, inflamed area(s) in the mouth
  • shock

• respiratory
  • extreme difficulty breathing
  • eyes, ears, nose, and throat
  • swelling within the throat to the point of closing it off

• gastrointestinal
  • abdominal pain (severe)
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea (bloody)

Note: The symptoms listed for beryllium salts and mercury are from chronic or long-term exposure. A single exposure will likely cause skin and mouth irritation only.
