Super glue

Home treatment:

Wash exposed areas with warm water immediately

If on the eyelids, keep the eyelids separated. Do not try to peel off the glue, sweat will accumulate under it and lift it off.

If fingers or other skin surfaces are stuck together, use a gentle rolling motion to try to separate them. If this does not work, try using a little acetone on the area. Do not use acetone on the eyes or tongue.

Before calling emergency:

Determine the following information:

  • the patient's age, weight, and condition
  • the name of the product (as well as the ingredients and strength if known)
  • the time of the incident
  • the area on the body affected

Poison Control, or a local emergency number:

They will instruct you if it is necessary to take the patient to the hospital. See Poison Control centers for telephone numbers and addresses. Bring the poison container with you to the emergency room.

What to expect at the emergency room:

  • Treat the symptoms

Expectations (prognosis):

As long as the super glue was not swallowed, the affected parts should be able to be separated. Most eyelids separate on their own in 1-4 days.
