Knee arthroscopy
Alternative names:
ACL reconstruction; arthroscopic debridement; arthroscopic lateral retinacular release; arthroscopic meniscal repair; arthroscopic meniscectomy; arthroscopic patellar debridement; arthroscopic removal of loose bodies; arthroscopic synovectomy; arthroscopic-assisted ACL reconstruction; meniscectomy; patellar debridement; synovectomy
Expectations after surgery:
Use of the arthroscopy has reduced the need to surgically open the knee joint which has resulted in less pain, swelling, stiffness, complications, and the length of hospitalization.
Convalescence:
Recovery is usually quite rapid. The patient may need to use crutches for a while to avoid weight and pressure on the knee joint. Normal activities should be reduced for several weeks. Pain can be managed with medications.
