Gallium (Ga.) scan

Alternative names:

bony gallium scan; liver gallium scan

Normal values:

Gallium usually collects in bones, the liver, spleen, the large bowel, and breast tissue. A normal scan shows these areas as highlighted.

What abnormal results mean:

Gallium detected outside the normal areas (areas of increased uptake) can indicate infection/inflammation or possibly neoplasm (tumors) including Hodgkin's disease or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
