Normal values:

The normal range is 320 to 1240 mg/24-hours.

Note: mg/hour = milligrams per hour

What abnormal results mean:

If the level is below normal, it indicates a possible renal tubular acidosis and a tendency to form calcium stones.
Urine citric acid levels may also be increased with:

• a high carbohydrate diet
• estrogen therapy
• vitamin D

Urine citric acid levels may be decreased with:

• severe muscular activity
• acidosis
• hypoparathyroidism
• diabetes
• chronic renal failure
