Estriol - urine

Normal values:

Excretion of estriol increases around the eighth week of gestation and continues to rise until shortly before delivery. Rising values indicate an adequately functioning "fetoplacental unit" (fetus, placenta, and all associated structures).

male: 1.0 to 11.0 mcg/24-hours
female follicular: 0 to 14 mcg/24-hours
female ovulatory: 13 to 54 mcg/24-hours
female luteal: 8 to 60 mcg/24-hours
female post-menopausal: 0 to 11 mcg/24-hours
pregnancy (first trimester): 0 to 800 mcg/24-hours
pregnancy (second trimester): 800 to 12,000 mcg/24-hours
pregnancy (third trimester): 5,000 to 50,000 mcg/24-hours

Note: mcg/24-hours = micrograms per 24-hours

What abnormal results mean:

Greater-than-normal estriol levels may indicate

Decreasing values suggest fetoplacental deterioration.

Lower-than-normal estriol levels may indicate
