Pregnancy Ultrasound

How the test is performed:
The test is performed while lying on a table. A conducting paste is applied to the abdomen to help with the sound transmission. The transducer is then passed horizontally and vertically over the abdomen. Pictures are taken of the reflections.
How to prepare for the test:
You will need to drink 3 to 4 glasses of liquid 1 hour before the test. You may not urinate before the examination.
How the test will feel:
There is some discomfort from the full bladder.
Why the test is performed:
The test may show abnormal pregnancies (for example, ectopic pregnancy), multiple pregnancies, a tumor, the age of the fetus, placental abnormalities (such as, placenta previa), the position of placenta, the fetal position, and uterine and ovarian enlargements.
