Definition:

A condition characterized by symptoms of intestinal obstruction without physical evidence of obstruction.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors:

The cause is unknown. The disorder is usually seen in teenagers and young adults. The intestine becomes distended, but no obstruction is found. Risk factors are unknown.
