Gilles de la Tourette syndrome

Treatment:

Antipsychotic medications such as chlorpromazine or haloperidol may be helpful in treating Tourette's syndrome. Pimozide is another medication that may be prescribed. Alternative methods of stress reduction may be helpful, including exercise, counseling, music, relaxation, group psychotherapy, or other methods. The most effective stress reduction method should be encouraged.

Expectations (prognosis):

The condition is generally benign but may be disruptive to the point of severely affecting social interaction. There is no effect on life span.

  • may interfere with social interaction
