Cutaneous candidiasis

Alternative names:

candidiasis - cutaneous; fungal infection of the skin; skin infection - fungal; skin infection - yeast; skin yeast infection; yeast infection of the skin

Symptoms:

  • itching (may be intense)
  • skin lesion or rash
    • enlarging patch
    • macule or papule
    • reddened, may be beefy red, raw
    • may have scales
    • may have satellite blister-like or pimple-like lesions
    • located on the skin folds, genitals, trunk, buttocks, under the breasts, or other skin areas

Signs and tests:

Diagnosis is primarily based on the appearance of the skin, particularly if risk factors are present. A culture (see skin or mucosal biopsy culture) or microscopic examination shows Candida.
