Definition:
The state that occurs with the use of amphetamines or sympathomimetic drugs. Intoxication can readily lead to overdose. Overdoses of amphetamines (or sympathomimetic drugs) can cause severe or fatal toxicity. Symptoms include rapid heart rate (tachycardia), high blood pressure, increased body temperature, agitation, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, coma, and death. See: Amphetamines in the poison section.
