Prevention:
Rubella syndrome can be prevented by routine immunization for rubella following CDC guidelines. Expectant mothers are routinely tested for rubella immunity during pregnancy. Nonimmune mothers are vaccinated immediately following delivery. During pregnancy, they must scrupulously avoid exposure to rubella.
