Large for gestational age (LGA)

Information:

Definition:
The fetus or infant is larger than normal or more developed than normal for his gestational age. A way to measure and monitor the growth and development of the fetus in the uterus and the infant after birth. If the fetus or infant is larger than expected for the same age and gender, he is referred to as LGA (large for gestational age).

The measurement is calculated based on the estimated gestational age of the fetus or infant in comparison to what is considered normal height, weight, head size, and developmental level for a child of the same age and gender.
