Abdominal ultrasound

How the test is performed:

The test is done in the ultrasound or radiology department. You will be lying down. A conducting paste is applied to your abdomen to help with the transmission. The transducer (a hand-held instrument) is then moved over your abdomen. You may be asked to move to other positions to examine different areas.

How to prepare for the test:

You may need to fast for 8 hours before the test.
