Skin lesion of Blastomycosis
Treatment:
The primary goal of treatment is to control the infection.
Antifungal medications may be given intravenously (in a vein) or orally (by mouth).
Any signs of involvement of internal organs should be noted and treated promptly. These include cough, sweating, fever, fatigue, a general ill feeling, weight loss, and joint or muscular stiffness or pain.
Expectations (prognosis):
The outcome varies. People with limited skin lesions have the best prognosis (probable outcome). Blastomycosis is often chronic or recurrent, so follow-up should continue for several years.
Complications:
- spread of infection internally
- recurrence of infection
- secondary bacterial skin infection, cellulitis
