The diagnosis of skin lesion of Histoplasmosis is based on the appearance of the skin lesion, coupled with a history of travel or residence in an endemic area and environmental or occupational exposure to chickens, bats, blackbirds, pigeons or other birds, or their feathers or droppings.
A biopsy of the skin lesion may show the associated fungus.
Because the skin lesion is usually associated with systemic infection, including the lungs and other areas, tests for infection in these areas may be performed, including:
